The decorated button shows a bird, a Pelican, with his chicks. It has been linked to a scene known from the early christian Physiologus. This image was used as an allegory for the death of Jesus Christ on the cross.

Text in English: Seventeen metal buttons.
One button is a decorated half-sphere with a slightly convex bottom. The decoration shows a bird, a Pelican, with his chicks. Brass wire shank is cast into head, bent to one side. There is significant wear on the side away from which the shank is bent.
Fourteen buttons are of a truncated cone shape, with a flat underside and a rounded bottom edge. They are all of the same shape but vary in size. They are all in very bad shape.
Each has a brass wire shank cast into the head, each of these is a different size and shape. Three of the shanks are separated from three of the buttons. Those that are attached are placed haphazardly in the heads, many are off-center. The separated heads are not broken, just separated.
One separated head is a half-spherical shape with a very convex bottom and rounded bottom edge. There is no shank but there are holes in the bottom side that would indicate that there used to be a wire shank at one point.
The final button is of a half-spherical shape, with sharp corners and a very flat bottom. A brass wire shank is cast into the bottom. It is very thin, and appears to have largely corroded away.
