  • Hello. I am researching steam engine makers for Lancashire, England. Benjamin Hick & Son, Bolton, Lancashire (one of the country's leading engine-makers at the time) made a condensing beam engine for this mill in Uddevalla, in 1862. It was 40 nominal horse power. It may be that they made one engine of this size for the mill in 1857 and then added this one to it in 1862 - this was quite normal. That would make a twin beam engine of 80 hp.

    It looked to be an impressive mill. There are no photos of the engine.
