Text in English: The sculpture is part of a sculpture group comprising eight tall pilasters, carved as Herms or Caryatids.
The sculpture is a companion piece to No. 00508.
Location and function on the ship.
The pilasters serve as doorposts and are situated between the lower stern gallery and the lower quarter gallery on the starboard and port sides, at the entrance between the stern gallery and the main cabin, and between the helmsman''s cabin into the main cabin.
It is not clear where pilaster No. 00269 has been located.
Iconography
Sculpture No. 00399 is wearing a large turban, which gives it an oriental appearance. This probably quite consciously relates the Herm to the myth of the captive Persians.
Woodcarver is probably Johann Thesson.
