Pilastern ingår i en skulpturgupp omfattande 30 relativt små hermpilastrar, utformade som antingen karyatider eller hermer.
Hermpilastrarna påträffades medan Vasa ännu låg i undervattensläge.
Placering på skeppet
Hermpilastrarna har troligtvis ingått i utsmyckningen av stora kajutan, som är belägen längst akterut på övre batteridäck, akter om styrhytten. Kajutans väggar har ursprungligen varit täckta av paneler, vilka separerades av hermpilastrarna.
Bildsnidaren är okänd. Samtliga pilastrar är mycket slitna, men har urspungligen varit rikt dekorerade.

The pilasters were found while the ship was still on the sea bed.
Location on ship
The pilasters decorated the walls of the admiral''s cabin, situated furthest astern on the upper gun deck, aft of the helmsman''s cabin. The cabin''s walls were covered by panels, separated by the pilasters in question.
Woodcarver unknown. The pilasters are in poor condition, but were once very richly decorated.
