Enl. brev (ink. 55/72) från The Adler Planetarium, Chicago, har den artificiella horisonten tillverkats omkring 1840, då Henry Hughes son Alexander ingick i firman.
Användning: För uppmätning av himlakroppars höjder över horisonten, då sjöhorisonten ej är synlig.
