Kask m/1807

  • This Helmet is of Russian Origin for sure. However, it is most likely not from 1803. The Horsehair crest was introduced at the earliest in 1807. Before this date, the regiments were issued with the thick bush hair style "chenille". Moreover, this helmet might well be from either the Horse Guards regiment, the Chevalier Guard regiment or even the Cuirassiers Leib guard regiment, since the regimental distinctions were worn on the uniforms, not on the headgear Equipment (see Viskovatov or Zweguintzov for references; I can provide some if needed)). I would suggest to mention "Russian Guard Heavy Cavalry" to avoid any confusion and to cross check the dates. This helmet should be compared to the models shown by Viskovatov to ascertain whether it is a 1807 pattern or a later one such as a 1820 1830 model for instance.
