Christopher Polhem's strange tap, made of tinplate with the fixed parts riveted and soldered. The gear and its sleeve, the sleeve on the pipe and a liner in the drain of the container are made of brass. The tap is to be mounted in the barrel. The amount of liquid that is drawn out is portioned with a key. It also functioned as a lock and limited access to the barrel's contents. This specimen was probably exhibited at the 1866 exhibition in Stockholm, by "Stiernsunds Bruksegare", according to a contemporary exhibition catalogue.
