I fastigheten på Nygatan 31 ses från vänster; J A Westerbergs Läderhandel, Evert Lundbergs Urmakeri och Urhandel samt A M Anderssons Skrädderiaffär. I gården trycktes Östgöta Correspontenten åren 1839 och 1840. År 1852 inköptes gården av källarmästaren Anders Peter "Bonn på Druvan" Andersson. Denne öppnade hotell och matsalen Druvan i ett nyuppfört hus på Bokhållaregatan, till vänster på bilden. Byggnaderna revs 1931.

Didrik von Essen lämnade efter sig omkring 1200 glasnegativ och ungefär lika många monterade positiv som tillfallit Östergötlands museum. Den bevarade delen av hans fotografiska produktion spänner från 1880-talets sista år till åtminstone 1915. Till största delen utgör samlingen dokumentation av hans hemstad Linköping i förändring. Vid sidan av den typen motiv förekommer landskapsstudier som utgjort förlagor för hans parallella landskapsmåleri.
