De arkeologiska undersökningarna vid Rumlaborg, L1974:5313 (RAÄ-nr Harkarp 26:1), i Huskvarna, Jönköpings kommun och län, startade som stadskommunalt reservarbete vintern 1931 på initiativ av Huskvarna hembygdsförening. Det året rensades de tre vallgravarna upp och massorna lades upp på vallarna för att torka och kunna undersökas nästkommande sommar. De egentliga undersökningarna kan därför sägas ha kommit igång 1932 och undersökningarna pågick sedan varje sommar fram till och med 1942, med undantag för åren 1936, 1940 och 1941. Ytterligare en vintergrävning genomfördes också, kring årsskiftet 1934 - 1935. Undersökningarna kom att bli ett av de största arkeologiska projekten som har genomförts i Jönköpings län under 1900-talets första hälft.
Huvudansvarig genom hela projektet var Folkskollärare Georg Sahlström (1885-1951). Han var ordförande i Huskvarna hembygdsförening och Riksantikvariens ombud i Huskvarna och Hakarp. Han var tillsammans Kapten Bror Kugelberg (1868-1947), häradsfornvårdare i Tveta härad, utsedd som ansvarig av Riksantikvarieämbetet. Riksantikvarieämbetet hade satt som krav för att undersökningarna skulle få genomföras att antikvariskt utbildade, eller på annat sätt erfarna personer skulle deltaga vid undersökningarna. 1932 blev fil. kand. Erik O. Johanson utsänd av Riksantikvarieämbetet för att ansvara för den arkeologiska dokumentationen vid undersökningen. Samma år deltog fil. studenten Anders Lindahl från Jönköping och han tog sedan över Johanssons roll vid undersökningarna 1933 och hade den fram till och med 1938. Mellan åren 1932 - 1934 deltog även fil. studenten Walter Fredriksson. Vid undersökningarna 1939 och 1942 var det studeranden vid Jönköpings högre allmänna läroverk, och senare fil. kand, Gunnar Hellman som ansvarade för den arkeologiska dokumentationen. Han hade även deltagit vid flera av de tidigare undersökningarna, från 1934 och framåt. Dessa personer bekostades helt eller delvis av medel från Riksantikvarieämbetet, men de var
