HistoryUnder hösten 2001 genomförde Mölndals kommun, Kultur och Fritid, på uppdrag av Länsstyrelsen, en flytt av fornminnet Hejderidarens gravsten (fornlämning RAÄ-nummer Mölndal 53:1).
Bakgrunden till flytten är en flerårig diskussion som kommunens hembygdsförening fört tillsammans med Mölndals museum (senare Mölndals stadsmuseum) och Länsstyrelsens kulturmiljöenhet. Stenen har legat på en mycket svårtillgänglig plats mellan Kallebäck och Lackarebäck (vid foten av Rallarberget), men framför allt har det varit risken det inneburit att passera över järnvägsspåren (Boråsbanan), som föranlett diskussionen om att flytta på gravstenen.
Den 7 oktober 2001 flyttades Hejderidarens gravsten samt den stenbänk som stått intill stenen från järnvägens östra sida till väster om den. Flytten utfördes av Banverket i samband med att tågrälsen mellan Göteborg och Borås var avstängd för banarbete. Den 11 oktober utfördes den slutgiltiga flytten av stenen av Mölndals kommuns gatukontor till dess nuvarande plats. Enligt gamla kartor beräknas detta vara den plats där hejderidaren Lars Swensons trädgård en gång har legat, och där han ursprungligen begravdes. År 1819 invigde biskopen en gravplats åt honom där. När järnvägen till Borås anlades på 1980-talet flyttades gravstenen till en svårtillgänglig plats mellan spårområdet och det branta berget öster därom. Men nu är gravstenen åtbördad till sin ursprungliga plats.
Hejderidaren Lars Svensson (1756-1838) är en av Mölndals mest mytomspunna män. Han beställde själv och lät resa gravstenen under sin livstid.
Under årtiondena kring 1800 var Lars Svensson vice hejderidare över kronoparken Slottsskogen och skogvaktare i Askims härad.
Ordet hejderidare betyder ”ryttare som rider i skogen”, ”skogvaktare”, och kommer av tyskans Heidereiter. Som sådan skulle han övervaka kronans skogar och hålla efter smugglare.
Under vecka 26, år 2002, utförde Strömer Stenkonservering ett konserveringsarbete av gravstenen.
