- 1677 beslutade Karl XI att låta avbilda alla fanor och standar vilka vunnits som troféer i krig. Syftet var att bevara minnet av dessa segertecken för eftervärlden även om själva föremålen skulle förstöras av ålder. Erik Dahlberg fick i uppdrag att anlita en konstnär. Det blev Olof Hoffman som kom att ägna resten av sitt liv åt att måla av alla de tusentals fanor och standar som förvarades i Arsenalen. Han dog mitt under Stora Nordiska kriget år 1709. Två hundra år senare befann sig hela trofésamlingen tillfälligt i Nordiska Museet medan Riddarholmskyrkan, där de normalt förvarades, renoverades. Krigsarkivarien Johannes Petrelli passade då på att inventera hela samlingen och anlitade ett flertal konstnärer för att avbilda de fanor som tillkommit efter Olof Hoffmans död eller som Petrelli ansåg hade blivit felaktigt avbildade. Avbildningarna är inbundna i 30 volymer vilka tillhör Krigsarkivets samlingar men finns deponerade i Armémuseums arkiv.

- HistoryJonas Jonsson gick åren 1892-97 tecknings- och mönsterritarekurs vid Tekniska skolan i Stockholm och blev 1898 anställd vid Generalstabens litografiska anstalt. Mellan åren 1904-15 arbetade han med att avbilda troféer tillhörande statens trofésamling.
