Delområde 28CD: efter slutförd undersökning tas kvarvarande delar av kulturlager bort med grävmaskin, foto från öst
Under sommaren år 2003 utförde Upplandsmuseet en arkeologisk undersökning i delar av ett förhistoriskt boplatsområde beläget inom de historiska ägorna för Bredåkers och Gamla Uppsalas byar. Undersökningen föranleddes av en ny dragning av väg E4 förbi Uppsala.
Boplatsområdet delades upp i 7 undersökningsytor där merparten av de arkeologiska objekten har visat sig ingå i konstruktioner; ett omfattande bosättningsområde (hus och hägnader) som daterats till äldre järnålder (500 f.Kr. - 550 e.Kr.) samt lämningar efter ett bronsgjuteri från yngre bronsålder (1100 f.Kr. - 500 f.Kr.).
Undersökningen, har tillsammans med flertalet andra, gett ny och fördjupad kunskap kring områdets förhistoriska bosättningar och bebyggelse. Framförallt när det gäller kunskapen kring bebyggelsens organisation och olika verksamheter. Bosättningen, som tidigast kan följas från äldre bronsålder (1800 f.Kr. - 1100 f.Kr.), ändrar utseende och struktur över tiden vilket speglar större samhälleliga förändringar under äldre järnåldern.
