Krigsskyrkogården med ilandflutna tyska och engelska soldater från Skagerrackslaget på Stora Risholmen i Ellösefjorden. Begravningen av sju engelsmän och sex tyskar ägde rum sommaren 1916. Inskriptionen på den stora stenen lyder:

De var några av de 9 000 som omkom på Skagerrak strax väster om Jyllands nordspets natten mellan 31 maj och 1 juni i första världskrigets största sjöslag.
Den brittiska och den tyska flottan drabbade samman i det som kom att bli det enda stora sjöslaget under första världskriget. Slaget har kommit att gå under namnen Nordsjöslaget, Skagerrackslaget eller Jutlandsslaget. 250 fartyg deltog och den brittiska flottan avgick med en dyrköpt seger. Över 9 000 man från båda sidor dog. Det var inte bara slagets oljud som nådde den svenska kusten, efter ett tag började även kropparna efter de avlidna att flyta iland. Kropparna begravdes längs kustbandet men även på olika kyrkogårdar runt om i Bohuslän. 1952 togs de tyska soldaterna till hemlandet och 1961 flyttades de engelska till den gemensamma krigskyrkogården på Kviberg i Göteborg.

Dan Samuelsson (1893 – 1980)
Daniel (Dan) Samuelsson, ingenjör och dokumentärfotograf, föddes 24 april 1893 i Kungshamn, Bohuslän. Han växte upp med sex syskon i ett frikyrkligt hem på Smögen i Bohuslän. Fadern hette Johan Samuelsson (1854 – 1908) och modern Christina Carlsson (1856 – 1930). Fadern var fiskare som ung men följde sin religiösa kallelse och övergick till att bli predikant på heltid. Han kallades ”Bohusläns apostel” och seglade längs hela Bohuskusten i en liten garnbåt, mycket efterfrågad och uppskattad vart han än kom. Ingen av familjens barn, fem söner och en dotter, döptes i Svenska kyrkan. Maken dog tidigt och för att klara familjens försörjning öppnade Christina Carlsson en diverseaffär och blev handlande på Smögen. Dan Samuelsson fick börja försörja sig som 15-åring men skaffade tidigt sin första kamera, en Kodak lådkamera med landskapslins. Även flera av bröderna fotograferade och sålde bilder till olika tidningar, delvis för att kunna finanserna högre studier efter folkskolan.
Efter ingenjörsstudier på Chalmers Tekniska Högskola i Göteborg flyttade Dan Samuelsson till Nyköping 1922 och anställdes som schaktmästare men hade svårt att försörja sig som ingenjör och blev arbetslös 1923. Då flyttade han hem till Smögen igen där han fotograferade och sålde bilder. Han deltog samtidigt framgångsrikt i olika fototävlingar. 1924 fick han i uppdrag av Svenska Turistföreningen att åka runt i Bohuslän och fotografera sevärdheter. Under vår och sommar fotograferar han arbetliv och miljöer i fiskelägen och landskap.
Hösten 1924 anställdes han vid lantbruksingenjörsnämnden i Södermanland och bosatte sig i Nyköping där han sedan blev kvar resten av livet. Här träffade han sin hustru och paret gifte sig 1928.
Dan Samuelsson blev en duktig fotograf och hade nog också kunnat försörja sig som sådan. Genom sitt arbete med många resor i länet - då kameran alltid var med - passade på att dokumentera människor, miljöer, arbetsliv och fritid i Södermanland. Han var en noggrann fotograf, med teknisk skicklighet och sinne för bildkomposition Trots sina kunskaper framkallade han inte sina bilder själv utan lämnade alltid in sitt material för bearbetning. Många av hans bilder är publicerade i flera tidskrifter och tidningar. Han medverkar med ett hundratal fotografier i bokverket Bilder från Sverige, tryckt 1928.
Dan Samuelssons negativarkiv om 5 000 bilder finns på Sörmlands museum i Nyköping och på Nyköpings kommun. Bildsamlingar finns också på Bohusläns museum, Nordiska museet och Hallands konstmuseum i Halmstad. Ett mindre antal bilder finns även på Vitlycke museum i Tanum, Bohuslän.
