HistoryKrokslätts fabriker även kallat Mölnlycke fabriker.
Den industriella textilproduktionen i Krokslätt började under 1870-talet, då det första bomullsväveriet etablerades invid Mölndalsån. Förutsättningarna för textilindustrins genombrott var den alltmer växande marknaden för färdiga textilprodukter. Under hela
1800-talet sker en övergång från hantverksmässig till industriell produktion, och vid slutet av
seklet finns ett stort antal textilfabriker i Västsverige.
Anledningen till att väveriet kom att förläggas till Krokslätt var flera:
tillgång till det i produktionen nödvändiga vattnet, goda transportmöjligheter. närheten till
hamnstaden Göteborg samt billig tomtmark. Krokslätt var dessutom vid industrietableringen en jordbruksby med omfattande obebyggda jordbruksmarker, som kunde tas i bruk vid en framtida expansion.
Redan efter något år köptes väveriet in av en industriman från Mark, Claes Johansson, och det var under hans ledning som verksamheten kom igång på allvar. Vid sekelskiftet hade ett stort antal byggnader vuxit fram längs med ån, och personalstyrkan uppgick till ett par hundra anställda. Av detta äldre fabriksområde finns fortfarande en del byggnader kvar, även om själva väveriet har rivits. 1 anslutning till fabriksområdet låg även arhetarbostäder, som efter hand uppfördes av företaget, samt tjänstemannavillor, handelsbodar, skolor m.m.
Under det kommande decenniet utvidgades verksamheten kraftigt, och även området på andra sidan Göteborgsvägen började bebyggas. Nya stora väveri- och spinneribyggnader samt ett nytt kontorhus uppfördes - det är denna bebyggelse som utgör kärnan i det nuvarande fabriksområdet. De nya byggnaderna kom att präglas av de samtida industriarkitektoniska idealen.
Tidigare hade fabriksanläggningar endast sporadiskt varit en uppgift för arkitekter, men kring sekelskiftet kom industrin successivt att bli alltmer betydelsefull som uppdragsgivare för arkitektkåren. Fabriksbyggnaderna började nu bli ett vanligt inslag i marknadsföringen av
företagens produkter, och man var mån om att göra ett stabilt och förtroendegivande intryck.
Arkitekterna anlitades framförallt till den yttre fasadutformningen, medan konstruktioner och planlösningar överlämnades till specialiserade ingenjörer.
Under mitten av 1910-talet sysselsatte fabriken ett tusental anställda, och kring industriområdet hade ett helt samhälle börjat växa fram.
Med första världskriget kom den första nedgången. Det var svårt att få tag i råvaror, och under en period låg produktionen nere. På 1920-talet övertogs företaget av Skandinaviska Kredit AB, och en rad rationaliseringar genomfördes. Under 1930-talet slogs Krokslätts fabriker
samman med Mölnlycke fabriker, och produktionen utvecklades till att omfatta hela textilprocessen, från bearbetning av råvaran till tillverkning av färdiga tyger. På 1950-talet arbetade över 500 personer i fabrikerna. Den stora krisen kom under 1960-talet, då företaget successivt började avvecklas. År 1971 fanns endast 16 anställda, och några år senare stod lokalerna helt tomma – en hundraårig textilproduktion hade gått i graven. 1991 byggnadsminnesförklarades delar av fabriksområdet, lokalerna upprustades, och nya hyresgäster flyttade in. Idag fungerar Krokslätts fabriker som industrihotell, och
ett 100-tal olika företag är verksamma inom området.
Området representerar både ett industrihistoriskt och ett lokalhistoriskt värde. Fabriken var under en lång period en av de största anläggningarna vid Mölndalsån, och kring fabriksområdet växte efterhand ett helt samhälle fram med personalbostäder, handelsbodar och skolor. De flesta av dessa byggnader har i efterhand rivits och ersatts av nyare bebyggelse, men fabriken har ändå utgjort en av de viktigaste förutsättningarna för stadsdelen Krokslätts framväxt. Området har också ett stort miljömässigt värde. Genom sin placering och utformning utgör anläggningen ett viktigt inslag i stadsmiljön, och det är därför angeläget att även det äldre fabriksområdet bevaras. Tillsammans vittnar de båda anläggningarna om en industrimiljö med lång kontinuitet.
VIKTIGA KARAKTÄRSDRAG
Industriarkitekturen - Fabriksområdet präglas som helhet av sekelskiftets industriarkitektoniska strömningar med utsmyckade tegelfasader och stora, spröjsade fönster. Det äldre fabriksområdet låg invid ån, men när verksamheten utvidgades under början av 1900-talet, började även området på andra sidan Göteborgsvägen att bebyggas. Av det äldre området finns fortfarande en del byggnader kvar, även om själva väveriet har rivits. I det nyare området är fler byggnader bevarade. Förutom de stora väveri- och spinneribyggnaderna finns ert flertal mindre, låga byggnader, som bidrar till att förmedla industrimiljökaraktären. Området är av stor betydelse för stadsbilden, och det är därför viktigt att det ges en framträdande plats vid framtida förändringar i dalgången.
