Mölndals stad inköpte den s k Terrakottafabriken 1935. Landstinget ordnade här en omfattande yrkesutbildning för länets stenhuggarungdom. I januari 1936 anlände första omgången elever, 127 manliga och 14 kvinnliga. De utbildades till bilmekaniker, byggnadssnickare, elektriker, radiomontörer, instrumentmakare, mekaniker, motorskötare, murare, målare, skräddare, smeder, modellsnickare, möbelsnickare, svetsare, tapetsörer, handskmakare, handsksömmerskor, körsnärer och pälssömmerskor.
Men det skulle inte fortsätta lång tid. I mars 1937 nedlades avdelningen för motorskötare, och i juni 1938 nedlades avdelningarna för körsnärer och pälssömmerskor. Under vårterminen 1939 rönte avdelningarna för handskmakare och handsksömmerskor samma öde.
Så fortsatte skolan till år 1943. Då upphörde den statliga undervisningen för viss arbetslös ungdom, och skolan omorganiserades till en flygmekanikerskola med åtta flygmekanikeravdelningar och sex specialavdelningar. Avdelningarna för mekaniker, skräddare och modellsnickare nedlades, och avdelningarna för elektriker och möbelsnickare övertogs av staden som kommunal verkstadsskola.
Den 1 juli 1958 upphörde verkstadsskolan. Samtidigt övertog landstinget flygmekanikerskolan, som omändrades till en yrkesskola. Landstinget köpte lokalerna, det gamla Terrakotta och elevhemmet.
