HistoryLunnagården ligger strax väster om Balltorps bybebyggelse, och utgör en egen, enskild enhet. Namnet bevarar minnet av de lundar, som fanns här en gång i tiden.
Lunnagården har funnits sedan åtminstone 1500-talet, då den ägdes av Gustav Vasa. Under l600-talet kom gården att ägas av olika statstjänstemän, kanske som en del av ett avlöningssystem. Under detta sekel var det vanligt att statstjänstemän och officerare avlönades genom att de fick överta en del av kronans jordinnehav. Gården har senare kommit att byta ägare ett stort antal gånger. Från 1950 ägs den av Mölndals stad, som arrenderar ut gården. Vid sidan av jordbruket har man på Lunnagården även bedrivit andra verksamheter, såsom fruktodling, brännvinstillverkning, grönsaksodling, svinuppfödning och kolning.
Gårdens sociala särställning markeras såväl i bebyggelsestruktur som i arkitektonisk gestaltning. På en karta från 1769 kan man se hur gårdens ekonomibyggnader tidigare bestod av tre olika hus, grupperade kring en gårdsplan. Detta utgjorde den så kallade fägården. Bostadsbebyggelsen, med huvudbyggnad och vinkelställd flygel, bildade en motsvarande byggnadsgrupp - den så kallade mangården. Detta bebyggelsemönster var vanligt för herrgårdsarkitekturen, till skillnad från den ”vanliga” bondebebyggelsen, där mangårdsbyggnader och ladugårdar grupperades kring en gemensam gårdsplan. Att skilja mellan mangård och fägård var ett sätt att markera den högre sociala ställningen. Fägården kom senare att byggas samman till en stor vinkelbyggd lada, och söder om mangården uppfördes en bränneribyggnad.
Gårdens särställning markeras även i herrgårdsbyggnaden, som genom sin storlek och arkitektoniska utformning tydligt skiljer sig från övriga boningshus i området. I källmaterialet kan man läsa att byggnaden uppfördes 1792, men delar av huset är äldre än så - en vinkelställd mangårdsbyggnad finns inritad redan på kartan från 1769. Årtalet 1792 åsyftar därför troligvis ett större ombyggnadsprojekt, varigenom herrgården omgestaltades för att motsvara de samtida idealen inom högreståndsarkitekturen. Typiskt är det så kallade mansardtaket, som ger byggnaden en annan resning än det i området vanliga sadeltaket. De enkla, strama fönsteromfattningarna och portalens ganska anspråkslösa markering är ett annat karakteristiskt drag för det sena 1700-talet. Det var också vanligt att träpanelerna målades i ljusa, gärna gula färger - ert sätt att imitera de franska förebildernas stenfasader. Trots att byggnaden byggts om och till genom åren har den alltså kvar sin 1700-talskaraktär.
Andra sätt att markera sin sociala ställning var anläggandet av trädgårdar och alléer. På Lunnagården anlades den första trädgården några år efter det att den nya herrgårdsbyggnaden stod klar. Allén, som idag har en lite udda placering, tillkom under 1800-talets första hälft. Man anlade då en ny väg, som från väster ledde fram till herrgården. Denna väg används inte längre, men allén vittnar om att detta tidigare varit gårdens huvudväg.
Lunnagården är kulturhistoriskt intressant, då den utgör en typisk herrgårdsanläggning, vars utformning speglar hur högreståndskulturen manifesterade sin sociala särställning i det äldre jordbrukssamhället.
