Teckningen ingår i en större samling teckningar och skisser gjorda av Gertrud Nilsson. Motiven är hämtade från bland annat Italien och Norrland.
Gertrud Nilsson (1878-1970) var född i Uppsala och dotter till kemisten Lars Fredrik Nilsson och Alva, f. Forssman. Morfadern Per Forssman var kryddhandlare i Uppsala. Gertrud Nilssons mormorsfar var kyrkoherde i Skuttunge. Gertrud Nilsson tjänstgjorde som lärare i Stockholm och tillbringade somrarna i Jämtland där hon av samerna lärde sig att binda rotkorgar sommaren 1928.
Skissbok med tillhörande teckningar ingick i den samling med rotarbeten som donerades till Upplandsmuseet av IM i Lund 1971.
