- Varbergsskolan skapades av de tre konstnärerna Richard Bergh, Nils Kreuger och Karl Nordström. De levde och verkade i Varberg mellan 1893 och 1895. De träffades som unga på en målarskola i Stockholm i mitten 1870-talet och vistades under en period i Frankrike, i Paris och Gréz-sur-Loing. I Varberg kom de att förändra sitt sätt att måla och utvecklade ett stämningsfyllt landskapsmåleri påverkade av Gauguin och van Gogh. Deras nationalromantiska naturmåleri fick stor betydelse för måleriutvecklingen i Sverige under denna period.
