Föregångare till Skansen i Stockholm?
På Träslövsvägen 1 i centrala Varberg ligger en rödmålad stuga med torvtak, ett s.k. sydgötiskt hus från 1700-talet. Närmsta grannar är församlingshemmet, en nybyggd rondell och en modern tegelvilla. Man kan naturligtvis undra varför ett så gammalt hus ligger mitt i den moderna stadsbebyggelsen. Och huset har verkligen en märklig bakgrund och historia.
ALFRED BEXELL
1876 köpte riksdagsmannen och godsägaren Alfred Bexell stugan ”på rot” på Kulsegård i Harplinge av hemmansägaren Jöns Jönsson. Allt lösöre, utom de kläder Jöns Jönsson bar, följde med köpet av stugan. Traditionen berättar att Jöns Jönsson tog med sig sin snusdosa av mässing men när Bexell fick se detta sade han: ”Nej du Jöns, den får du lämna kvar, den hör till lösöret.” Kulsegårdsstugan plockades ned stock för stock och återuppfördes 1879 som museum på Göingegården norr om Varberg där Alfred Bexell då var bosatt. Alfred Bexell hade tidigt intresserat sig för den gamla folkkulturen. Han hade bl.a. en stor samling sydsvenska bonader, en mängd allmogeföremål och stora samlingar av silver och arkeologiska fynd som nu kunde inhysas i den inköpta stugan från Harplinge. Bexell hade även förvärvat en stuga på Balgö som han sannolikt också hade för avsikt att montera ned och flytta. Han nöjde sig emellertid med att tillvarata enstaka inventarier härifrån som han placerade i museet i den återuppförda Kulsegårdsstugan. Alfred Bexell var sannolikt den förste i vårt land som tillvaratog en ryggåsstuga med hela inredningen bevarad. Snart skulle det dyka upp hembygdsmuseer med gamla hus litet överallt. Artur Hazelius, Nordiska Museets och Skansens grundare, besökte Bexell i stugan omkring 1880 och fem år senare, köpte Hazelius den första stugan till Skansen i Stockholm.
Bexellska ryggåsstugan donerades av familjen Strömbom (Bexell) till Stiftelsen Hallands länsmuseer 2003. Genom denna storslagna gåva kan vi idag besöka ett välmående bondehem på den halländska landsbygden för 200 år sedan!
Tillhör samlingarna i Bålastugan. Överlämnats som testamentarisk gåva efter Gulli och Nils Strömbom. Kapten Nils Strömbom (1898-1983) tjänstgjorde som militär både i Halmstad och i Stockholm. Han var expert på bonadsmåleri, främst det sydsvenska, och utnämndes av Lunds universitet till fil.dr honoris causa och var ledamot av Kungl. Gustaf-Adolfskademin samt i Vetenskapssociteten i Lund. Han deltog i uppbyggnaden av Varbergs och Halmstads museer. "Bålastugan" inköptes av hans morfar Alfred Bexell 1876 från Harplinge. Dess interiör står oförändrad sedan 1700-talets slut. Han var gift med Gulli Strömbom (1910-2002), dotter till Birger Svensson, cykelfabriken Monarks grundare.
