Lavetten är bärgad från den ryska skärgårdsfregatten Sankt Nikolai (äv. stavning Sankt Nicolai). Fartyget sjösatt den 23 april 1790 i Kronstadt. Konstruktörer var D. Masalskiy och I. Kutygin. Fartyget var cirka 40 meter långt och hade en besättning av 250 sjömän. Sankt Nikolai var bestyckad med två kanoner om 24 pund samt 20 kanoner om 18 pund. Det är okänt till vilken kaliber denna lavett har hört.
Sankt Nikolai var ett av de ryska fartyg som deltog i det andra slaget vid Svensksund (ry. Rochensalm) den 28 juni 1790. Fartyget skadades svårt och sjönk. Fartygschefen Marshall vägrade lämna sitt skepp och gick under med fartyget. Tolv ryska sjömän från Sankt Nikolai överlevde slaget.
