År 1833 flyttade den 13-årige bokhållarsonen Adolf Andersohn (1820-1887) till Vänersborg för att ta tjänst som bodbiträde. Tolv år senare öppnade Andersohn en egen handelsbod. Genom att omvandla verksamheten till spannmålshandel grundade han en ansenlig förmögenhet. Under 1860-talet drog sig Andersohn tillbaka från handelsrörelsen för att ägna sig åt sina stora intresseområden – välgörande verksamhet, resor och samlande.
Genom donationer till bland annat kyrkan, skolor och behövande kom Andersohn att bli hyllad som en stor välgörare för staden. Vid samma tid gjorde han flera resor till olika delar av Syd- och Centraleuropa och kring Medelhavet. Under sina resor idkade han sitt tredje stora intresse – att samla. Adolf Andersohns samlingar kom att omfatta såväl natur- som kulturhistoria. Han var en sann naturromantiker och de föremål han samlade var vackra, exotiska och märkliga. De skulle snarare förmedla känsla än faktakunskap.
År 1871 skänkte Andersohn en större naturaliesamling till läroverkets museum. När Axel W Eriksson i början av 1880-talet erbjöd Vänersborg sin omfattande fågelsamling stod man inför ett lokalproblem.
Andersohn tog då initiativ till uppförande av en museibyggnad som skulle rymma såväl hans egna samlingar som läroverkets museum, Erikssons fåglar och Vestra Sveriges Landtbruks-museum. Andersohns upprop för ett museum väckte inte det stora intresse han hoppats. Han fick därför bekosta merparten av projektet själv. Byggmästaren August Krüger påbörjade museibygget 1885. Under uppordnandet av samlingarna drabbades Andersohn av ett slaganfall och avled 1887. Utställningarna kom därför att ordnas av en kommitté bestående av två läroverksadjunkter och en sparbankskassör.
När Vänersborgs museum öppnade i sin helhet 1891 var det en manifestation av Andersohns museitanke. Museet skulle visa världen för vänersborgarna. Man skulle häpna inför de vackra och exotiska föremålen. Museet skulle även inge respekt för Gud och Fäderneslandet samt inpränta god moral i det uppväxande släktet, allt enligt Andersohns intentioner.

Bakom namnen döljer sig en Madame Julie Geiser som 1850 emigrerade med sin make från Schweiz till Alger. Efter makens död öppnar Julie år 1855 fotoateljé tillsammans med fransmannen Jean-Baptiste Antonie Alary. När även Alary avlider 1867 drivs firman vidare av Madame Geisers tre söner fram till ungste sonen Jeans död 1923. Företaget kommer att bli en av det sena 1800-talets mest framgångsrika och prduktiva fotoateljéer i Algeriet.
