I augusti 1996 överlämnades en större donation till Vänersborgs museum genom testamente från makarna Curt (1898 –1978) och Elsa d´Orchimont (1900 – 1996). Donationen bestod av ett 70-tal keramikpjäser samt ett mindre antal skjut- och blankvapen.
Merparten av de donerade föremålen hade makarna d´Orchimont i sin tur förvärvat genom arv. En stor del av keramiksamlingarna har inköpts av Curt d´Orchimonts morfar läkaren Abraham Westman, Göteborg, medan vapnen tillhört officerare inom familjen d´Orchimont.
Släkten d´Orchimont härstammar från en adlig ätt i Luxemburg vars rötter kan följas till den under 900-talet levande Arnaul de Granson, greve av Chiny. Till Sverige kom släkten i början av 1700-talet med kaptenen Jean d´Orchimont (1686 – 1754). Jean, som hade flytt Luxemburg på grund av religionsförföljelse, slog sig ner som språklärare i Stockholm.
I Sverige erhöll släkten adlig värdighet 1812 respektive 1817 då Jeans sonson Carl Ferdinand d´Orchimont 1817 då Jeans sonson Carl Ferdinand d´Orchimont (1757 – 1824) och dennes son Wilhelm Albrekt d'Orchimont (1783 – 1861) adlades. Carl Ferdinand föddes i Göteborg och kom att göra en militär karriär, först inom artilleriet i Kalmar och Göteborg, innan han slutade sin bana som major inom armén. Även sonen, Wilhelm Albrekt valde den militära banan. Han avancerade till överste och chef för Västgöta-Dals regemente i Vänersborg varefter han befordrades till generalmajor. Från 1836 till 1851 tjänstgjorde han som landshövding i Skaraborgs län. Under flera år var han dessutom adjutant åt kung Carl XIV Johan.
Carl Ferdinand d´Orchimont´s sonsonsonson Curt d´Orchimont föddes i Göteborg 1898. Efter juristexamen 1923 tjänstgjorde han som notarie i bland annat Halland innan han slutligen erhöll tjänst som landsfogde vid länsstyrelsen i Älvsborgs län. I landsfogdetjänsten ingick att vara såväl länspolismästare som statsåklagare inom ett län.
År 1934 gifte sig Curt d´Orchimont med socionomen och lärarinnan Elsa Abramson och flyttade samma år till den av Wargöns Bruk ägda gården Björkås i Vargön. Fyra år senare, 1938, friköpte makarna d´Orchimont manbyggnaden på Björkås med tillhörande park.
Björkås hade år 1813 inköpts av Gustav Sandberg, (d. 1825) kamrerare vid Trollhätte Slussverksbolag. År 1825 övertog sonen lagmannen Anders Petter Sandberg gården och uppförde den nuvarande manbyggnaden 1830. Efter A. P. Sandbergs död 1846 beboddes Björkås av hans änka Hedvig Sofia Kafle till 1868 då gården övertogs av makarna Sandbergs son Christer Peter Sandberg (1832-1913). Denne om- och tillbyggde Björkås år 1880. Nu anlades också Björkås park med tre större näckrosdammar. Under en stor del av Christer Peter Sandbergs tid kom Björkås främst att tjäna som sommarvilla då Sandberg merparten av året bodde i London där han var verksam som järnvägsingenjör.
Efter C. P. Sandbergs död innehade hans änka Hanna Evelina Wikander Björkås till sin död 1924. Björkås kom därefter att drivas som sterbhus av godsägare Rickard Kock innan markerna styckades upp och bl a inköptes av Wargöns bruk. Efter det att makarna d´Orchimont friköpt Björkås 1938 genomfördes vissa interiöra restaureringar av manbyggnaden.
Genom ett av makarna d´Orchimont gemensamt upprättat testamente överläts Björkås med tillhörande park till Vänersborgs kommun efter Elsa d´Orchimonts död 1996. Efter renoveringar av byggnaden har den 1999 använts som inspelningsplats för filmen ”Den bästa sommaren” och i maj 2001 öppnades café på Björkås.
