Vänersborgs museums björn Ewellyn.
Inför museets 1800-talsdag där björnen skulle framträda gavs det möjlighet att på sociala medier komma med namnförslag. Bland många roliga, fina och finurliga förslag valdes namnet Ewellyn ut. Med motiveringen att det har faktiskt gått ”tama” björnar på Vänersborgs gator förut. Runt 1830 flyttade en excentrisk person till trakterna av Vänersborg. Han hette Llewellyn Lloyd och var en brittisk adelsman med intresse för jakt och zoologi och som fann den västsvenska naturen fascinerande. Här ägnade han sig inte minst åt jakt på varg, lo – och björn. I ett hägn på sin innergård i Vänersborg kom Llewellyn att ha bland annat rovfåglar och på 1840- och 50-talen kunde han till och med ses gå runt på gatorna i Vänersborg med en björn i kedja!
Larse Larsing kom med det passande förslaget EWELLYN – som referens till den historiske björnägaren Llewellyn.
