I Fansta i Bälinge socken norr om Uppsala undersöktes år 2006 tre fornlämningar med spår av bosättningar med både bebyggelse och annan verksamhet från yngre bronsålder till vikingatid.
Bebyggelsen synes ha utgjorts av två gårdar och har funnits på platsen under såväl äldre som yngre järnålder. Till det äldsta bebyggelseskedet som var från förromersk järnålder och tiden dessför, under yngre bronsålder, hörde också delar av ett aktivitetsområde. Detta var knutet till ett omfattande gropsystem på ett visst avstånd från den samtida bebyggelsen. Vissa fynd tyder på att någon form av metallhantverk var en del av verksamheten. Troligen finns ännu oupptäckta bebyggelselämningar som skulle kunna knytas till aktivitetsområdets äldre skede.
Det var endast under en begränsad tid under äldre romersk järnålder som bebyggelsen på platsen bestått av två parallellt fungerande gårdar. En äldre gård i norr var verksam under förromersk tid men också under äldre romersk järnålder samtidigt som en yngre gård i söder etablerades. Den senare var verksam ännu under vikingatid vilket är ett ovanligt drag för en bebyggelse i Uppland på avstånd från de historiskt belagda byarna.
