HistoryTuberkulos är en gammal infektionssjukdom som drabbar framförallt lungorna.
Sjukdomen som är luftburen spreds i synnerhet bland de fattiga och trångbodda i städerna.
I och med industrialiseringen och att inflyttning till städerna ökade i slutet av 1800-talet så spreds sjukdomen snabbare än någonsin.
Tron på att tuberkulossjuka skulle behandlas med ren och torr luft, vila och näringsrik mat, gjorde att sanatorierna förlades högt, gärna i skogsbygd.
Bolltorps sanatorium byggdes på just en sådan plats.
Det var färdigt att tas i bruk 1917. Byggnaden var i tre plan samt källare och vind och hade plats för 30 patienter.
Första dagen kom tre män och andra dagen tre kvinnor. Vid årsskiftet bodde sjutton män på avdelning 2 och femton kvinnor på avdelning 3.
I genomsnitt bodde patienterna omkring ett års tid på hemmet.
Tuberkulosen var till stor del utrotad på 1950-talet
och 1951 stängdes sanatoriet för att renoveras och moderniseras. 1952 öppnades Bolltorp igen, då som sjukhem för långtidsvård med rehabiliteringsinsatser.
Bolltorp stängde 1987 och patienterna flyttades till nybyggda sjukhem på Noltorp och Ängabo.
Idag är det gamla sanatoriet bostadshus.
