Horologium generale is a time-determining instrument in pocket format. This is made of gilt silver and pewter, and consists of compass, sundial, moondial, with several instruments and tables. The compass rose has the cardinal points marked. It has the equinoctial angle for calculating the equinox, a table with latitude data and a table for the position of the sun in the zodiac.

The instrument is marked by the maker "Udalricus Schneip Monachi ANNO 1584". Monachi is Munich. It is not complete, the compass needle and a plummet are missing. Ulrich Schniep was a famous clock maker and mathematical instrument maker who died in 1588. The object was purchased by Carl Sahlin on behalf of the museum, he was a me...
