Ägare till medaljen var givarens far John Högberg (1899-1987)
John Högberg föddes i London av en svensk far som arbetade där som skräddare. På 1930-talet kom han, genom en kusin, till Vänersborg där han träffade Elin Emanuelsson (1900-1985). De båda gifte sig och John kom att överta "Kristina Gustafssons Pappershandel" på Edsgatan 8. I folkmun kom John alltid att kallas "Engelsmannen" i Vänersborg och butiken kallades "Engelsmannens".
Han sålde pappersvaror, vykort, leksaker, souvenirer samt mycket slöjd från Steneby hemslöjd.
En tid före pensioneringen åkte John och Elin på en jordenruntresa - en kryssning som tog tre år för att besöka delar av Brittiska Imperiet där John rest som ung. Butiken sköttes av en anställd förestånderska.
Då John kom hem stängdes sedan butiken, ca 1964.
Hustrun Elin Emanuelsson arbetade som lärare på Södra skolan i Vänersborg.
Föremålen överlämnades som gåva till Vänersborgs museum.
