Den 11 januari 1944 upprättades ett köpekontrakt mellan greve Knut Lewenhaupt på Gäddeholm och Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget mer känt som ASEA.
ASEA köpte ett halvt mantal på södra Björnön, en ö i Mälaren strax utanför Västerås, för att där kunna bygga en semesterby för sina anställda.
Den 15 juni 1945 slogs portarna upp för första gången för arbetare och tjänstemän anställda på ASEAs nya fritidsområde på Södra Björnön. Då hade där byggts ett 70-tal stugor med antingen två eller fyra bäddar.
Stugorna hyrdes i första hand för en vecka och var väldigt populära. De första åren kostade det fem kronor per person och vecka! Vissa veckor blev snabbt fulltecknade.
