Givaren förvärvade bokdynan 1927 genom arv efter sin faster Elisabeth Lindh, Falun. Fastern var ogift och arbetade som kontorist hos kronofogden i Falun. Givaren fick aldrig veta hur och när fastern fick bokdynan i sin ägo. Lindh är en gammal bergsmanssläkt i Falun. På givarens moders sida finns många präster i släkten.
Givaren flyttade 1930 till Uppsala i samband med sitt giftermål. Hon och familjen har bott 46 år i Kåbo. Bokdynan har de senaste åren förvarats i ett stort ekskåp i givarens bostad på Wallingatan 9 B, Uppsala. Givaren har bott på Wallingatan i 16 år. Sedan i maj 1998 har hon, fram till sin död, levt på ålderdomshemmet Karl Johans-gårdarna, Uppsala.
Givaren och hennes man prenumererade på Svenska Dagbladet. 1947 fanns en liten artikel i tidningen om en broderiutställning på Nordiska museet. En liknande bokdyna som givarens var avbildad och i artikeln uppgavs att den var daterad till 1600-talets mitt. Artikeln fick givaren att förstå att bokdynan hon ägde var av stort värde. Hon hade kontakt med Gunnel Hazelius-Berg på Nordiska museet som tog in dynan och lät fotografera den. Nordiska museet ägde 1947 en snarlik bokdyna, NM 52 588, som sannolikt tillverkats vid samma ateljé som givarens. Givarens dotter, Brita Ingmar, tror att dynan kan vara tillverkad i Holland eller Belgien.
