Föremålet är en smartphone från 2004, alltså tiden innan iPhone. Hårdvaran är identisk med HTC Magician. Telefonen hör till andra generationen som kör Windows Mobile 2003, och är ett tidigt exempel på en Windows telefon.
Givaren hade tidigare lämnat sin analoga kalender och gått över till att använda en Palm VX handdator som han tyckte var effektiv och lättarbetad. Med Qtek S100 gick han över från handdator till smartphone, ett teknikskifte som ändå medgav att han kunde använda samma teckeninmatning som han lärt sig på Palm VX. Med hjälp av stylusen (”pennan”) kunde man skriva direkt på skärmen utan att använda tangentbord. Det fanns t o.m. en simulering av just Palms sätt att skriva med stylusen. Givaren tyckte också att det var häftigt att telefonen hade en svensk anknytning i teknikutvecklingen, något han hade hört talas om.
Framför allt tyckte han om att telefonen kunde kombinera flera olika funktionaliteter. Man kunde komma ut på internet (förvisso ganska långsam uppkoppling) och han kunde komma åt arbetsplatsens exchange-server och synkronisera e-posten. Han kunde även använda chatfunktionen MSN, vilket innebar att han visste när hans barn hade kommit hem och satt och spelade dataspel eftersom den datorn var synkad via MSN.
Givaren använde telefonen i omkring tre år och skaffade då en Samsungtelefon.
