Vid Säby i Uppsalas sydöstra utkant undersöktes 2007-2008 sex boplatser från romersk järnålder av Upplandsmuseets arkeologer. Boplatserna är samtida, belägna med endast några hundra meters mellanrum och präglas av en småskalig bosättningsstruktur.
Inom de 35 000 kvm som undersöktes framkom 43 hus. De enskilda gårdarna uppvisar såväl likheter som skillnader. Undersökningarna visar på hur järnåldernas upplänningar valde olika strategier för att organisera sin tillvaro. Man har sannolikt varit självförsörjande på spannmål och animalisk föda med samarbetat kring hantverk, t.ex. metallbearbetning och keramiktillverkning.
