Mellan juni och september 2017 utförde Upplandsmuseet, avdelningen Arkeologi, en schaktningsövervakning i samband med markarbeten i Kungsängsgatan, Bangårdsgatan och på Stora Torget i centrala Uppsala.
Det arkeologiska resultatet visar på bitvis välbevarade konstruktioner och kulturlager i Kungsängsgatan. Här finns lämningar efter tomtmarkeringar i form av olika hägnader. Minst en byggnad har också påträffats med en datering till 1300-talet samt en bebyggelsenivå från tiden kring sekelskiftet 1600.
Fyndmaterialet från undersökningen var välbervarat och utgjordes av en relativt stor mängd läderföremål, främst delar av skor. Textil, keramik, glas och järnföremål finns också representerat i material som dateras från 1300-tal till 1700-tal.
