Mynten och polleterna i samlingen har hittats i jorden när givarens familj rensade rabatter utanför torpet Stentorpet, Ragnhildsvik, Vassunda sn. Givarens far Anton Sjöberg var åren 1913 - 1939 anställd som trädgårdsmästare hos konsul Bünsow, som hade sommarställe i Ragnhildsvik. Torpet samt andra torp och en bondgård i närheten hörde tidigare till Skokloster slott som ligger mittemot vid Skoklosterfjärden. Vägen till Stockholm gick genom Vassunda sn och den s k Skovägen som utgick från Stockholmsvägen, slutade vid Stentorpet. Torparen hade skyldighet att ro över besökare till slottet. Detta gällde fr a under vinterhalvåret, under sommarhalvåret färdades besökarna oftast med båt från Stockholm.
Hästarna fick stå i en lada i närheten. Besökarna bytte om i stugans sal och tappade då, enligt givaren, ofta mynt som hamnade i rabatterna.
