Arthur Hazelius ville samla in och spara de växter och kunskaper som hörde till allmogens landskapsbild för att visa på Skansen.
Läkeörter för människor o djur odlades av allmogen intill ladugårdsväggar, vid åkerkanter och längs välgödslade fägator under stora delar av 1800-talet och bakåt i tiden. Hushållningssällskapens arbete för utvecklad odling för bönderna under andra halvan av 1800-talet medförde att sättet att odla förändrades. Genom utbildning och utdelning av gratis växter utbildades bönderna i trädgårdsodling och den extensiva odlingen av tex huskursväxter försvann. Hazelius ville spara kunskapen om den extensiva odlingens växter och förutsättningar för odling som ett minne på Skansen.
I grundplanen från 1890-talet omnämns att både huskursväxter och by-, vägkants- och åkerogräsväxter ska odlas intill Blekingstugan mot Morastugan samt på slätten mot Marknadsplatsen.

Återuppförande - Återplantering huskursväxter samt by-, vägkants- och åkerogräsväxter: 2019
På platsen för slätten mot marknadsplatsen finns idag kyrkåkern. I kyrkåkerns utkanter, i former från tiden före kyrkåkern har vi valt att plantera växter från listan "Växter vid byar, vägar åkrar od.", som förutom åkerogräs också rymmer många medicinalväxter.- Nuvarande ort för byggnad m.m.Sverige Stockholm Stockholm Stockholm Skansen Kyrkhultsgården Djurgårdensäker
