Humlegården bakom Kyrkhultstugan på Skansen omnämns första gången 1893. Den tidigaste bilden som visar att en humlegård är anlagd bakom Kyrkhultstugan är från 1899. På en annan bild, odaterad men tagen före 1936, visas baksidan av Kyrkhultstugan med tre rader humlestänger planterade längs stugan mellan dörrarna. Någon gång efter detta har humlegården tagits bort.
I Hazelius lista över ”Växter, som förekomma i täppor i allmänhet. Eller invid hus” skriver han: ”Humulus lupulus Humle odlas i humlegården.” I den listan hänvisar han alltså till täpporna på Skansen i allmänhet, inte till Kyrkhultsstugan i synnerhet.
Återuppförande - Rekonstruktion: 2019
Vid rekonstruktionen 2019 planterades en tysk sort som var modern på 1890-talet, Spalter Spalt från Bayern. Vi har i möjligaste mån valt att använda oss av rena arter alternativt sorter som var vanliga i handeln på 1890-talet, eftersom det var dessa leverantörer som Arthur Hazelius använde sig av. Hazelius var väldigt noga med vilka arter som skulle finnas "i täpporna runt stugorna"; det var växter som allmogen hade haft runt sina stugor. Han var dock inte så detaljerat intresserad som vi är idag, han var rationell och fick eller köpte in det mesta av växtmaterialet till hela Skansen via plantskolor och fröhandlare. Att det skulle vara gamla sorter från en geografisk plats så nära där byggnaden kom ifrån som möjligt var han inte intresserad av när det gäller växterna i täpporna runt stugorna.
