En plats som berättar om ett skärgårdslandskap, om gravar från olika tid och om vikten av att synas.
Safjället är ett bergsparti med fornlämningar från både sten-, brons- och järnålder. Det visar att området har haft stor betydelse under flera årtusenden. Här finns goda möjligheter att blicka ut över landskapet och med kännedom om fornlämningarna är det lätt att med fantasins hjälp föreställa sig omgivande dalgångar som havsvikar och förflytta sig till en skärgård i förhistorisk tid.
På Safjället finns gravar från olika tider. Här finns rester av hällkistor – en typ av stenkammargrav från omkring 2000 år före vår tideräkning och i typiska höjdlägen i landskapet ligger senare tiders gravar i form av rösen – daterade till bronsålder (1800-500 f.v.t) och stensättningar – daterade till järnålder (500 f.v.t - 1050).
Höjdlägena är ett sätt att markera status då gravarna syntes på långt håll i dåtidens landskap. Inom området finns även en fornborg. Många fornborgar som undersökts har daterats till järnåldern. Allmänt anses det att fornborgar fungerat som en tillflyktsplats vid orostider, andra teorier är att de kan ha haft en mer symbolisk betydelse eller att de kan ha markerat gränser. Fornborgen förstärker platsens stora betydelse genom historien.

Kulturmiljöer är platser som berättar om en gemensam historia och som därför är viktiga att bevara. De kan vara allt från en enskild plats eller byggnad till hela landskap. Platserna bär på kunskap om äldre tiders byggnadsstilar, om hur samhället har förändrats och om livet i och mellan husen.
