Text till webbutställning "Från när och fjärran" presenterad på Bohusläns museums hemsida åren 2009 - 2013:
Vävnad av rafiabast med broderat mönster, delar av mönstren har flossakaraktär, 80 x 78 cm.
Mönstren, som täcker hela den vävda tuskaftsbottnen, består dels av linjer, dels av ytor med sammets- eller flossakaraktär. Typisk är att mönsterformerna plötsligt ändrar karaktär och symmetrin saboteras på ett befriande sätt. Baksidan är nästan enfärgad, broderiet syns endast i svag relief.
Basten kommer från rafiapalmens långa blad, Rafhia farinifera. Bladen kan bli upp till 20 meter långa. I Sverige träffar vi på materialet under benämningen trädgårdsmästarbast.
Textilier av detta slag utfördes i Kasai-området i södra delen av Belgiska Kongo, nuvarande Demokratiska republiken Kongo. Där fanns från 1600-talet Kuba-riket med Shoowa-stammen, som var känd för sin mycket speciella och högt skattade broderiteknik. Det var männen som vävde, medan kvinnorna broderade de geometriska mönstren i dessa prestigetextilier, ibland använda som betalningsmedel.

Uppgifter om givaren:
Under sin 30-åriga vistelse i Belgiska Kongo skötte Elmer Göransson (1872-1964) under många år transporter på landets floder. När han år 1932 avslutade sin tjänstgöring var han både skeppsfartygsinspektör för hela den belgiska flottan i övre Kongo, t. f. chef för hydrografiska tjänsten samt hamnkapten i Leopoldville.
Han var samlare av bl.a. vapen, textilier och träkärl. I omgångar från 1919 skänkte Göransson afrikanska föremål till Uddevalla museum. Han kom att bli en av museiföreningens hedersledamöter.
Vid sin bortgång 1964 var han bosatt i Kungsbacka.

Enligt litteraturen är vävnader av detta slaget utförda av stammar som levde i området Kasai i södra delen av forna Belgiska Kongo, senare Zaire. Man pratar om det på 1600-talet bildade Kuba-riket. Ett folk inom Kuba, Shoowa-stammen, var kända för sin mycket speciella och högt skattade broderiteknik.
Det var männen i Shoowa-stammen som vävde, medan kvinnorna broderade de geometriska mönstren.

Den 25 augusti 1872 föddes Georg ELMER Göransson i USA, ombord på briggen Edith, ett amerikaregistrerat fartyg, där hans far var kapten. Vid sin bortgång 1964 var han bosatt i Kungsbacka.
Enligt Sveriges dödbok 1947-2003 gifte han sig den 11 oktober 1907 med HULDA Alfhild Göransson, född Sohlberg i Norum den 11 maj 1872, död i Kungsbacka den 14 oktober 1960. Paret hade inga barn.
Under sin 30-åriga vistelse i Belgiska Kongo, nuvarande Demokratiska republiken Kongo, skötte Elmer Göransson under många år transporter på landets floder. Började sin sjömansbana som jungman i göteborgsbarken LORD PALMERSTON. Därefter i barken KARL JOHAN från Fjällbacka, barken KARL FREDRIK från samma hemort samt i Glasgow-barken LARGO BAY 1895—96. Avlade styrmansexamen i Göteborg 1897 och sjökaptensexamen året därpå. Styrman i barkskeppet SIGYN från Göteborg, därefter i flera göteborgsångare.
I Kongo först styrman i sternwheelern FLANDRE. Från september 1904 befälhavare i DELIVRANCE III i trafik på Kassaifloden och till Lac Leopold II. Från maj 1906 befälhavare i VILLE DE BRUGES.
Under sin fortsatta tjänstgöring i Belgiska Kongo anställd vid "Service Hydrographie" för att sköta utprickningen av Kassaifloden. Senare hamnnkapten och "Inspecteur de la Navigation" med stationering i Leopoldville. Tjänstgjorde i Kongo till den 19 juni 1932.
Avled i Uddevalla 28 april 1964."
