Förstamajblomman firas troligen för första gången i Uddevalla.
Beda Hallberg som föddes i Onsala 1869 och dog 1945 gjorde till sin livsuppgift att bekämpa tuberkulosen i Sverige. Hon kom på idén till majblomman som från 1907 till 1980 samlat in 120 miljoner kronor.
Beda Hallberg växte upp i en stor syskonskara på gården Presse i Onsala. Redan som sexåring fick hon hjälpa till med barnpassning hos de fattiga grannfamiljerna.
När Beda Hallberg gifte sig och bosatte sig i Göteborg började hon olika former av välgörenhetsarbete för att lindra nöden bland de tuberkulossjuka och fattiga barnen. Det var då hon kom på idén med majblomma. Den första var blå en färg som återkommer vart femte år. Den kostade tio öre och såldes i 139 000 exemplar, vilket inbringade 14 000 kronor.
