På Nord-Långö i Strömstads skärgård ligger anläggningen Alaska som i slutet av 1920-talet anlades av den då 60-åriga Hilma Svedal, född Wounsch. Hon återvände då till hembygden efter cirka 30 år i Amerika, där hon levt ett strapatsrikt liv som bland annat guldgräverska i Alaska.
Med hjälp av stenar, snäckor och cement lät hon uppföra terrasser, tempel och torn.
Hon inspirerades av villaträdgårdarna med all dess blomsterprakt som hon sett i Californien. Efter Hilmas död förföll anläggningen, men återställdes i början av 1990-talet.
