Gullholmen är ett av västkustens äldsta fiskelägen. Under de stora sillperioderna på 1700-talet och 1800-talet växte samhället på ön och konservfabrik, salteri och segelmakeri tillkom. Man började använda kuttrar för fiske och fraktfart, vilket skapade arbetstillfällen och gjorde Gullholmen till ett skeppar- och fiskesamhälle.
På äns norra del är husen byggda nästan nere vid vattnet. Här ligger stenstugan, som är ett av de äldsta husen på ön. Det är idag museum. Skepparhuset från 1800-talet är värt ett besök. Rummen och inventarierna står kvar i sitt ursprungliga skick och huset med tillhörande sjöbodar har blivit sjöfarts- och fiskemuseum.
På Härmanö är endast den östra sidan bebyggd. Resten av ön är ett av Bohusläns största naturreservat.

Fotograf Carl Alfred Träff, född 1880, död 27 februari 1947.
Träffs huvudsaklinga produktion rörde fotografering för vykort som han gav ut på sitt eget förlag T-foto, eller på andra förlag såsom Alrik Hedlunds förlag eller Lindenhags förlag.
Carl Alfred Träff arbetade som glasblåsare på Rosdala glasbruk, men år 1905 lämnade han Småland för att bli fotograf i Göteborg. Han ägnade sig åt flera sorters fotografi och försörjde sig omväxlande som ateljé, porträtt- och industrifotograf.
Men det var i första hand som vykortsfotograf han gjorde sig känd.
De mest aktiva åren i hans karriär inföll under 1930-talet och första hälften av 1940-talet, då han besökte de flesta större orter och städer i södra Sverige. Han har fotograferat många av Bohusläns kustsamhällen.
Carl Alfred Träff föddes i Norrhult, Nottebäcks socken. Han var son till indelte soldaten Carl Johan Träff och dennes hustru Matilda. Föräldrarna drev senare järnvägshotellet i Norrhult. Sönerna i familjen blev hyttpojkar på glasbruket, som var ortens enda industri.
Träff flyttade till Göteborg 1906 och kallade sig då handelsagent. Han blev senare fotograf och fanns 1908 i Hotel Bristols fastighet på Packhusplatsen. Han flyttade sedan runt i Göteborg och Bohuslän; mellan 1908 och 1922 fanns han registrerad på elva olika adresser i Göteborg och Uddevalla. Det första kända vykortet signerat Träff är poststämplat 1908. Motivet är en fabrik på Hisingen, och kortet skickades av Träff själv till ledningen för företaget.
Carl Alfred Träff saknade själv bil och körkort, och tog sig därför fram längs Bohuskusten och på Göta kanal med båt, tåg eller cykel, när han fotograferade bilder till vykort. Han beskrivs som mycket noggrann, och kunde vänta i timmar på rätt ljusförhållanden vid en tagning. Träff producerade under sin livstid omkring 8600 vykortsmotiv.
Träff var enstamstående.

År 2016 förvärvade Bohusläns museum en samling om 1201 negativ från Carl Alfred Träffs produktion, varav merparten var glasplåtar (UMFA55582:0001-1201). I förvärvet ingick också några av Träffs privata fotografier.
