Alaska skapades av Hilma Svedahl, född Wounsch, oktober 1870 på grannön Syd-Hälsö, död 2 juli 1965.
Hilma utvandrade till New York och senare till Alaska.
När hon var i 60-årsåldern återvände hon till Strömstad och på Nord-Långö, som hon fått som arv, byggde hon upp sin skapelse med hjälp av bl.a. Nils Johansson och bröderna Olsson från Seläter (som ligger på fastlandet mitt emot ön).
På 1930-talet kunde hon ta emot sina första gäster på Alaska, där hon byggt upp terrasser, tempel, torn, paviljonger, vägar, soffor, bord m.m. av enbart stenar (som Hilma hämtade med sin eka på grannöarna), snäckor och cement. Även ett värdshus, Golden Inn, fanns på ön men detta brann ner 1962.

AB Almquist & Cöster (1927 – 1968).
Almquist & Cöster var ett grafiskt företag på Bruksgatan 22 i Helsinborg, känt för framför allt en omfattande produktion av vykort.
Företaget grundades 1927 av fotografen Salfon Almquist och teknikern Rudolf Cöster. Som mest hade företaget omkring 120 anställda. Man hade säljare och fotografer som reste över hela landet. Rörelsen upphörde år 1968.
