Hjulångaren Uddewalla trafikerade Uddevalla mellan åren 1853 och 1876 och ligger här vid platsen för nuvarande Västerbron. Fartyget var på sin tid Sveriges snabbaste ångbåt.

Hjulångaren "Uddewalla" vid norra kajen. Båten ligger där Västerbron idag förenar Västerlånggatan med Göteborgsvägen. "Uddewalla" var byggd på Motala verkstad, sjösattes 1852 och kom till Uddevalla 1853. Med sina 60 hästkrafter ansågs den vara Sveriges snabbaste ångbåt, den klarade sträckan Göteborg - Marstrand på drygt 2 timmar. (Olsson 1983, s. 94.)
Diskussionerna om nyttan med ångbåtstrafik tog fart mot slutet av 1830-talet. De första ångbåtarna dök upp i samband med somrarnas badsäsonger på Gustafsberg. På sina håll fanns ett visst motstånd mot nymodigheterna. Uddevalla befann sig ännu i en stagnationsfas och ångbåtsresor över öppet vatten ansågs dessutom vara ganska riskabla. Vidare fanns det redan en fast båtförbindelse med Göteborg, men det var en förbindelse som gick via Götaälv på vilken en ångare med samma namn trafikerade linjen Uddevalla-Göteborg från 1833. Denna resa tog i bästa fall en dag och man fick starta från Uddevalla kl 6 på morgonen. Skärgårdstrafiken segrade dock efterhand. Konkurrensen mellan olika företag var hård. år 1876 bildades det kanske mest kända företaget, Ångbåts AB Bohuslänska Kusten, och några år senare övertog det aktiemajoriteten i det äldre Göteborgs och Uddevalla ångbåtsbolag. Bilden föreställer hjulångaren Uddewalla i hamn år 1865. Fartyget byggdes vid Motala Verkstads varv i Norrköping 1853. Uddewalla konstruerades för att gå i trafik mellan Uddevalla och Göteborg. På 1870-talet såldes hon till Danska Statsbanorna. Hon trafikerade därefter Lilla Bält. Fartyget skrotades 1883. (Åberg 1997, s. 49.)
Uthyrd i jan. 1876 till Danska Statsbanorna för trafik i Lilla Bält. Såldes i mars samma år för 50 000 till DSB och gick under namnet Reserven mellan Strip och Fredericia i Lilla Bält. Skrotades 1883. (Hansson, 1981).

Josefina Rydholm övertog 1 oktober 1860 sin bror Svante Leonard Rydholms fotoateljé på Södra Drottninggatan 13 som var den första fasta fotoateljén i Uddevalla, öppnad 26 juli samma år. Josefina Rydholm tillkännagav i en annons i Bohus Läns Tidning att C. J. Rydholm öppnat ”Photografisk Atelier”. Hon var då 33 år.
Josefina Rydholm blev en skicklig fotograf och bedrev sin rörelse i nära tjugo år till sin död i april 1880. Hennes sterbhus fortsatte verksamheten något år med oförändrad firma och med fotograf Maria Lundbäck som föreståndare.
Syskonen var barn till instrumentmakaren, paraplymakaren och glasmästaren Anders Rydholm och Stina Cajsa Borsett på Söder i Uddevalla.
Svante Leonard Rydholm (1821 - 1895) flyttade till Linköping och öppnade fotoateljé där. En yngre bror var Axel Wilhelm Rydholm, (1837 – 1909), känd handlande i Uddevalla, donator och grundare av segelsällskapet Viken, SS Viken.

Fotograf Maria Lundbäck, född 1857, död 1927.
Maria Lovisa Lundbäck föddes i Örebro, dotter till bryggeriägarna Edvard Lundbäck och Theresia Uddgren. Hon flyttade tillsammans med sin mor Maria Theresia Uddgren till föräldrarnas hemstad Uddevalla i unga år.
Hon lärde sig fotografyrket av fotograf Josefina Rydholm (1827 – 1880) i Uddevalla. Vid Rydholms död övertog Maria Lundbäck Rydholms ateljé på Södra Drottninggatan 13 och var föreståndare där i några år för sterbhuset med oförändrad firma.
Maria Lundbäck etablerade sig den 1 juni 1883 i egen ateljé på Lagerbergsgatan 11 i fastigheten som hon köpt och där hon var verksam till sin död under firmanamnet Maria Lundbäck fotografiatelier. Maria Lundbäcks huvudsakliga verksamhet var alltså förlagd till Uddevalla, men mellan juni 1891 – april 1896 hade hon filial i Trollhättan i Herr Johan Svenssons trädgård vid Skolgatan. Maria Lundbäck hade också en tid filial i Munkedal. I Maria Lundbäcks annonser i lokalpressen gör hon reklam för ”Endast extra fint arbete utföres”.
Maria Lundbäck hade flera kvinnliga fotografer anställda.
Rörelsen övertogs 1927 av fotograf David Almkvist (1888 - 1947). Firman hette ”Fotograf Almquist, Maria Lundbäcks Eftr., Uddevalla” och flyttade senare till Kungsgatan 17.
Det var som porträttfotograf Maria Lundbäck blev känd men var också verksam med att fotodokumentera skilda händelser i staden, utställningar affärer och industrier. Hon erhöll många priser och utmärkelser för sin yrkesskicklighet och fick bl.a. vid Göteborgs- och Bohusläns Hushållningssällskaps 100 års jubileums lantbruksmöte i Uddevalla (1914) ta emot första pris och hederspris för fotografer. Lundbäck var medlem i Svenska Fotografernas Förbund.
Maria Lundbäck hade också ett samarbete med Hildur Andersson som ägde Uddevalla Pappershandel och tillsammans saluförde de fotografier Maria tagit som vykort. Idag finns få källor som berättar om deras samarbete och relation men mycket tyder på att de var ett par. Maria lät Hildur ärva merparten av sin kvarlåtenskap och de ligger begravda på Norra kyrkogården i Uddevalla tillsammans. De var båda medlemmar i den lokala föreningen för kvinnans rösträtt.
