Granlohög, längst ut mot gränsen till Selånger, var tidigt ett populärt utflyktsmål, dit sundsvallsungdomen ofta rodde sommartid och hade picnic. Vid midsommar 1850 ordnade en sjökapten Wiklander, som sannolikt då ägde stället, en danstillställning där på kvällen. Redan då fanns det en lokal vid Granlohög för ändamålet. Den byggnad som senare kom att kallas Tornvillan skall ha uppförts 1853.
Sjökapten Wiklander dog 1855. Sommaren 1854 övertog källarmästaren på Casino, Hampus Enqvist, Granlohög och öppnade värdshus där. Han skall också ha byggt kägelbana och ordnat båttransporter dit.
Egendomen köptes i början på 1860-talet av handlanden P.A. Wessblad. Hampus Enqvist hade sannolikt redan lagt ner värdshuset Granlohög då, han gifte sig 1862 och flyttade upp till fädernegården i Sidsjö och blev lantbrukare. Wessblad byggde om huvudbyggnaden, anlade springvattenbassäng med vattenkonst och förskönade den vackra lantegendomen. Det kan ha varit då trädgårdsarkitekten Rudolf Stenberij anlitades för utformningen av parken — densamme som anlagt bl a parken vid Svartvik.
Det var troligen någon gång under 1870-talet som grosshandlaren A.P. Hedberg sedan köpte Granlohög som sommarställe åt sig och sina bröder. Efter dennes död 1882 finns det uppgifter på att grosshandlare Carsten Jacobsen på Tunadal någon tid skall ha varit ägare eller delägare. Denne hade genom giftermål blivit släkt med bröderna Hedberg, och en av Jacobsens söner skall ha drivit jordbruket på Granlohög, som vid den tiden utvidgats till att bli ganska stort. Längre fram under 1880-talet står dock A.P. Hedbergs yngre bror grosshandlaren J.A. Hedberg som ägare, vilken också skall ha byggt om huset på 1890-talet. Det lär vara då det försågs med snickarglädje och torn. J.A. Hedberg avled 1906.
I början på 1900-talet skall Granlohög dock enligt uppgift ha ägts av sågverksdisponenten på Nacka O. Sillerström. Denne avled dock redan 1904 och dödsboet sålde egendomen till åkaren Frans Wadell som drev jordbruk på Granlohög. Wadells var inflyttade från Västergötland på 1880-talet och drev åkeri i Sundsvall under lång tid. Det var en stor släkt. Frans Wadell med fru och barn lämnade Sundsvall kring 1915, men änkan och dottern flyttade sedan tillbaka och bodde ännu i slutet av 1930-talet på Granlohög. Wadells dödsbo sålde villan 1947 till Nils Tjernblom. Staden växte nu allt mer och tryckte på. Under 1940-talet styckades Granlohögs mark upp till villatomter och bebyggdes. Tjernblom förblev Tornvillans ägare in på 1970-talet, då det bestämdes att byggnaden skulle rivas. Villan var dock välbevarad och man försökte få den kulturskyddad. Den var nu ett av de finaste exempel som fanns kvar av 1800-talets ståtliga trävillor. Invändigt fanns också ett vackert tak i stora salongen och en pampig grönglaserad kakelugn.
Men den 11 april 1980 brann den gamla tornvillan i Granlohög ner. På platsen står nu en grupp flerbostadshus.
