Karl Kristiansson [även stavat Carl Christiansson], son till Carolina Christiansson, konservator på Uddevalla museum 1864 - 1912.
Carl Christiansson, född 7 maj 1863 var son till Niklas och Carolina Christiansson, Uddevalla. Familjen hade också en dotter, Gerda (1860 – 1875). Fadern fick anställning som konservator på Uddevalla museum 1863 men dog efter en kort tid. Modern efterträdde maken och kom sedan att arbeta som konservator på Uddevalla museum i 48 år.
Carl hjälpte till med olika arbetsuppgifter på museet, bl.a. som vakt. Han fick arbete hos en företagare i Uddevalla som kunde stödja honom ekonomiskt och Carl fick möjlighet att gå på läroverket och bli student.
Carl gick till sjöss och fick ett spännande liv utomlands. I Husförshörslängd för Uddevalla 1877 – 1881 står han antecknad som ”sjöman”. På visitkortsporträtt UMFA53226:0842 avbildas Carl i en elegant skjorta eller uniformjacka med texten POLONIA. På fotografiets baksida står antecknat: ”Anländ på ’ S/S Polynia’ ägare Gordon Bennet”.
Tidigast som 17-åring tycks Carl Christiansson ha blivit besättningsman ombord på SS POLYNIA, ett lyxigt snabbgående ångfartyg, byggt 1880 på Ward, Stanton & Company i Newburgh, Connecticut 1880, beställt av Gordon Bennet Jr., (1841 - 1918) USA. Fartyget användes för snabba turer mellan New York och Boston.
Bennet kom att påverka Carls liv. Han var förmögen tidningsman och skicklig journalist, son till skotten James Gordon Bennett Sr., grundaren av the New York Herald (1835 – 1924) som var först med modern journalistik och vad som kallas ”gula pressen”, ung. skvaller- eller sensationspress. Tidningen ansågs vara den ledande under sin tid och var berömd för att ha finansierat två av Henry Morton Stanleys expeditioner i Afrika. Från 1887 gavs tidningen också ut i Paris. 1924 blev den uppköpt av New York Tribune och integrerad in i New York Herald Tribune.
Bennet Jr. levde framförallt det goda livet i London och Paris som playboy och var känd som sponsor för flyg- och båttävlingar och för sitt excentriska uppträdande. På något sätt kommer alltså Carl tidigt i kontakt med Bennet som han senare fortsätter att arbeta för.
Carl Christiansson skänker ett 40-tal gåvor till Uddevalla museum under flera decennier. De första inkommer redan 1883 och bland annat för dessa får modern 50 riksdaler i gratifikation av museets styrelse. ”Fornsaker från Carthago, Egypten, Venedig, Pompeji med flera ställen.” Som besättningsman på Bennets privata kryssningar i Medelhavet och vid senare tillfällen har Christiansson inköpt olika exotiska föremål som han tyckte kunde passa på Uddevalla museum. 1886 inkommer fler gåvor till samlingarna där det under givarort står antecknat ”Noumona”. NAMOUNA var en ångyacht, ett av Bennets flera lyxfartyg. Fartyget gjorde kryssningar i Medelhavet och ombord fanns som gäster dåtidens europeiska och amerikanska jetset.
I Husförhörslängd 1881 - 1889 antecknas Carl Christiansson, sjöman, som flyttad till ”N. Amerika 1887 9/8” och att han är ”Amerikansk medborgare Southern District of New York 4/2 1887”.
Carl Christiansson bosätter sig senare i Paris och blir där redaktör för New York Heralds Parisupplaga, kallad The Paris Herald, (1887 – 1924). Tidningen rapporterade om de rika och berömda, huvudsakligen för amerikaner i Europa. Tidningen låg i Neuilly-sur-Seine, då en förort till Paris och hade kontor på Champs Elysees / Avenue de Opera 49 och Rue du Louvre 38.
I Fastighetslängd för Uddevalla 1919-1924 1:a Roten Kv. Ascheberg står som fastighetsägare antecknat: Carl Christiansson, direktör Paris. I fastigheten bor modern, Carolina Christiansson till sin död 1924.

Carl eller Charles Christiansson dog i Paris i början av 1927. Närmast sörjande var hans hustru som var fransyska. Läs betraktelse i Bohusläningen den 5 mars 1927.

"Ett märkligt levnadsöde avslutat. Uddevalla-pojken som blev tidningskungens förtroendeman.
I sitt hem i Paris avled nyligen efter en tids sjuklighet herr Charles Christiansson, 64 år gammal. Med hans bortgång avslutades ett synnerligt märkligt levnadsöde – en roman ur det levande livet som icke hör till de alldagliga.
Christiansson föddes i Uddevalla och växte upp under enkla förhållanden. Han blev tidigt faderlös, men hans duktiga mor, konservatrisen vid Uddevalla museum fru Carolina Christiansson, som avled 1924, aktad och ärad, satte honom i läroverket härstädes, där ynglingen dock blott gick igenom ett par klasser. Unge Charles gav sig ut i världen såsom skeppsgosse. Därmed var han försvunnen för sina bekanta under många år.
Han fortsatte emellertid som sjöman och fick en vacker dag anställning som kajutpojke på den amerikanska tidningskungen Gordon Bennets lustyacht ”Polynia”. Han kom nu att känna den store mannen intimt, fick tillfälle att se hans svara sidor, men också hans många goda. Charles plågades i sitt stilla sinne över att se, hur Bennet, när han råkat förfriska sig väl mycket, var ett eftersökt byte för kortspelare och andra hajar, som visste att den originelle mannen vid sådana tillfällen var ett lätt och givande byte.
Men vad skulle den enkle hyttpojken kunna göra för att förhindra en trafik som han avskydde? Ingenting! Men kanske ändå en utväg kunde stå honom öppen: att stänga in sin husbonde, när gamarne ämnade sig att falla över honom. Han gjorde verkligen ett försök. Det hade varit middag ombord och Bennet hade som vanligt kommit i hög stämning. Nu skulle det bli spel av, enligt vad gästerna förklarade. Men sedan den store tidningskungen gått in i sin avdelning passade Charles på att – stänga in honom med påföljd att han den gången slapp undan att bli plockad av sina ”vänner”, vilka naturligtvis antogo att värden dragit sig tillbaka för dagen.
Morgonen därpå blev emellertid Charles tilltag uppenbarat och hans gode husbonde råkade i eld och lågor. Med en sådan slyngel måste processen bli kort; han måste genast köras i land! Någon förklaring fick ynglingen naturligtvis under så upprörda förhållanden icke tillfälle att ge, utan nödgades utan vidare genast lämna fartyget.
Men Bennet var Bennet och så fort han hunnit lugna sig inställde sig ett behov av förklaring över kajutpojkens åtgärd. Han hade ju själv intet att vinna på att stänga inne sin herre. Vad kunde motivet ha varit?
Bennet kunde inte släppa denna fråga och omsider lät han kalla Charles åter ombord för att få höra hans egen förklaring. Den olycklige f.d. kajutpojken, som ju innerst inne höll mycket av sin före detta husbonde, talade öppet och ärligt om sina motiv. Bennet lyssnade med uppmärksamhet och Charles märkte att den gode Bennet nu hade makten.
- Du får stanna ombord, var det enda han sade.
Från den stunden hade miljardären och tidningskungen fattat förtroende till ynglingen. Den ena upphöjelsen följde efter den andra och en dag satt f.d. kajutpojken i Paris, som ekonomisk, och så vitt man kunde se, även redaktionell chef för New York Heralds franska edition, ett ansvarsfullt och krävande uppdrag, som han dock på ett lysande sätt gick i land med att sköta. Han skördade här ej blott ära utan också guld.
Under världskriget var herr Christiansson av amerikanska regeringen betrodd med flera uppdrag och han nedlade vidare i amerikanska Röda Korsets tjänst ett mycket uppoffrande och högt uppskattat arbete. För det ena såväl som det andra fick han av president Woodrov Wilson mottaga en erkännsam handskrivelse (Amerika har som bekant inget ordensväsende – hade man så haft skulle nog en stjärna prytt herr Christianssons rockuppslag).
Herr Christiansson hälsade upprepade gånger på i sin födelsestad, där han hade många vänner. Han var en älskvärd person och en sann hedersman, som gjorde mycket gott i det tysta. Säkerligen välsigna många också här i Uddevalla hans minne. Herr C. var en mycket berest man. Han har bl.a. kommit ihåg Uddevalla museum med många värdefulla gåvor från Egypten.
Under senare åren hade Christiansson dragit sig tillbaka från den krävande posten med tidningens direkta skötsel och levde mera som privatman i Paris.
