- History
Axel Wilhelm Eriksson (1846 - 1901) reste som assistent åt Charles John Andersson i sydvästra Afrika 1865-1867.
Andersson blev sjuk och dog under resan men Eriksson stannade kvar och ägnade sig åt handel med elfenben, strutsfjädrar och boskap.
Hans naturintresse ledde till en stor samling fåglar, ägg, insekter, däggdjur, horn och etnografiskt material.
Mycket av detta skänkte han till sin hemstad Vänersborg, och det blev grunden till museet där.
En del förmedlades också till museet i Uddevalla.
