"Johan August Andersson var född på Ulveröd i Lane Ryr 1852. Han flyttade till Uddevalla där han gifte sig med Bernhardina Frankenberg. I "Sveriges befolkning 1890" är han antecknad som snickare och paret Andersson hade då två barn, Torsten född 1884 och Sigurd 1890.
J. A. Andersson arbetade en tid på Uddevalla snickerifabrik men startade snart egen möbelfabrik. Han hade verksamhet på Kålgårdsbergsgatan i kvarteren Bilde och Stake. Firman hette "J.A. Anderson, Snickeri & Möbellager", se fotografi UMFA54477:0249.
Andersson var också uppfinnare och fick patent på ett 20-tal uppfinningar. Den mest berömda var den s.k. inventionssoffan ( inventio betyder uppfinning på latin). Inventionssoffan blev en riktig statuspryl i många svenska hem i slutet av 1800-talet och långt in på 1900-talet. Den hade en sinnrik mekanism där de karaktäristiska stora armstöden kunde fällas ut och sitsen roteras med madrassidan uppåt för att slutligen fungera som gästsäng.
Andersson hade många strängar på sin lyra. Han var under många år ordförande för Uddevalla Hantverks- och industriförening. Inom den i Uddevalla välkända organisationen Samfundet Myrstacken var han ceremonimästare under många år. Myrstackens skogsplanteringsprojekt var många och Andersson var en av de drivande krafterna. Senare blev han också medlem i Skogsodlingens vänner och i många år dess ordförande
Andersson satt som ledamot i flera samhällsnyttiga donationskommittéer. Det var på hans initiativ som en av de första skolkökskurserna i länet kom till stånd i hans födelsebygd i Lane Ryr. Han var en av stiftarna av Uddevalla läsestuga och var en aktiv mångårig ledamot av såväl byggnadsnämnden som taxeringsnämnden i staden.
Andersson betraktades av Lane Ryrsborna som minst sagt underlig då han under flera år gick omkring i gårdarna och bad att få köpa gamla föremål. -"Att han vill ha sånt skräp och dessutom betala för det!". Så tyckte Lane Ryrsborna och sålde gärna sina gamla bruksföremål. Men Andersson var en framsynt man. Han förstod att man bör bevara minnena av en kultur, som håller på att förändras. I 80-årsåldern tog han initiativ till en museibyggnad i Lane Ryr och dit skänkte han de gamla föremålen. Museet invigdes den 17 juli 1937 och Lane Ryrs hembygdsförening bildades då för att ta hand om museet i Gammelgården intill kyrkan.
Fabrikör J A Andersson intervjuades i tidningen Bohusläningen på sin 90-årsdag den 17 november 1942 och fick då frågan: "Hur lever man egentligen för att bli så gammal? Den pigge jubilaren är genast färdig med svaret: En ska försöka vara som vid 20-årsåldern, säger han med en tjuvpojksglimt i ögat. För resten är den levnadsregel, som jag fick av uppfinnaren och nordpolsfararen Andrée en gång i tiden, bra att ha i åtanke: en ska äta litet, leva enkelt, arbeta mycket och inte sova bort hela natten. 90-åringen smuttar på groggen och tänder cigarrcigarreten: Och inte är det farligt med en rök eller en droppe sprit heller, tillägger han. Allt som Gud har skapat är till nytta, men kom ihåg att njuta allt med måtta!"
Hembygdsmuseet i Lane Ryr är alltså Anderssons verk och i intervjun på sin 90-årsdag säger han att han har ytterligare en hel samling värdefulla gamla föremål. ”Kanske blir det Uddevalla museums tur att denna gång få en del av dessa?” Och så blev det!"
