Beskrivning på användning av kölnetäcke i "Tanum Kulturminnesvårdsprogram för Tanums kommun", Tanums Kulturnämnds skriftserie, nr 4, 1984, sidan 206:
Kölnan på Håltane, Sundshult. En kölna är ett torkhus för lin, sädesmältning för ölframställning m.m. Byggnaden på Håltane består av ett enkelt brädskjul, ca 3 x 4 m. Inuti byggnaden står kölnan, som är av timmer, direkt på den flata berghällen. I botten är eldstaden, murad av gråsten. Ovanpå "lådan", ca 1,8 x 2 m i fyrkant och ca 2 meter hög, finns ett spjälgaller av klena störar. På detta galler lades kölnetäcket och ovanpå täcket breddes det ut som skulle torkas. Den varma luften strömmade sedan genom täcket och torkade på så sätt linet eller säden. Kölnetäcket var tillverkat av nöthår, tvinnat till grova trådar som vävts till en matta.
Kulturhistoriskt lexikon för nordisk medeltid, del 10, Allhems förlag 1965 beskriver under ordet Kölna: ... Underlaget för maltet bestod av käppar el. stänger el. var flätat av vidjor (mda. kölleflage, sv. flage, flake), som övertäcktes med ett grovt hårtäcke (i Sv. kölnoklädhe, belagt 1334, 1339, SDIV400,658; i No haera, 1646; i Engl. kiln- el. oast-haire, oast-cloth, 1500-talet, och i Ty. Harenlacken, belagt 1284). I stället för detta underlag användes senare bräder med hål i (sv. fiöhl, fjäler, 1717, 1729), medan i städerna redan på 1600-talet plåtar av järn (kiölnelafwe, 1658, 1666) förekommo.
