Föremålet visas i basutställningen Kustland, Bohusläns museum, Uddevalla.
Modellen är tillverkad av Carl Hansson, mormors far till givaren. Tillverkaren var bleckplåtslagare i Lysekil på S. F. K. Konservfabrik varifrån han pensionerades 1929. Kyrkan är gjord som dopgåva och present till dottern Gurli (1905-1990) och hustrun Hilda Augusta (1867-1922).
Hanssons stora intresse och extra inkomst var att arbeta med plåt och han tillverkade många fin alster under sin levnad. Han hade en liten verkstad i Skottegränd. När det blev känt att kyrkan skulle säljas och flyttas fick Hansson idén att tillverka en kopia av plåt och skänka den till sin hustru som väntade parets sjätte barn.
Plåtkyrkan ärvdes av den yngsta dottern, Gurli, och vid hennes död 1990 ärvdes den av ett av barnbarnen. Kyrkan stod alltid placerad på en hylla i finrummet och varje jul tände Gurli stearinljusen i de små glasljusstakarna inne i kyrkan till barnbarnens stora förtjusning.
Lysekils gamla kyrka såldes 1906 till Bohus Malmön där den fortfarande står, nyrenoverad och återinvigd år 2000. Den byggdes ursprungligen 1796 och stod placerad på gamla kyrkogården som ligger i backen väster och nedanför nuvarande kyrkan. Kyrkan var 42 alnar lång, 17 alnar bred och 13 alnar hög. Kyrkan invigdes på sin ursprungliga plats år 1800.
