Text in English: A keg is a small staved vessel used for containing ''wet goods'' or salted herring. It is stored horizontally and holds less than ten litres of liquid or, correspondingly, ten kilos of herring. It consists of a number of side pieces/staves that are attached to the ''barrel'' end and held together by osiers of hazel, willow or birch. Band-iron is used for larger vessels or barrels. The wooden staves are curved using heat and steam.
Records and photographs taken at the time of the salvage show that the keg was found intact with its contents, but of what kind was not specified. Probably aquavit. The photographs show the keg with eleven hoops and tap still in place.
