Kerub.

Text in English: The sculpture is included in a sculpture group which comprises which comprises eight decorative sculptures, differing widely from one another in type and appearance.
Traces of iron were noted on the right wing of the sculpture at the time of the salvaging.
Site context and function.
All the sculptures, with the exception of No. 04821, were recovered aft, on the upper gun deck, in the main cabin.
Location and function on ship
The sculptures have probably been located in the main cabin, or the smaller cabin above the main cabin, situated on the aft part of the upper deck. Because they are few in number, it is possible that the sculptures decorated furniture or other movable items in the cabin, and were not part of any fixed decoration.
Iconography
Small heads of men and woman, more or less bizarre in appearance, and with wings, are found from time to time in the sculptured decoration of North European renaissance state chambers. They perform nearly the same function there as the comic figures from the Middle Ages onwards on the capitals of church pillars and arches. One example is the richly sculptured and still intact decoration of the Fredenhagensche Zimmer in the Haus der Kaufmannschaft in Lübeck, which was built by Hans Dreger in 1572-1583. In the mass of small figures that are part of the architecturally composed wall decoration, there are also small winged female figures (heads and upper parts of the body) wearing clowns'''' costume and playing different kinds of instruments.
Woodcarver unknown.
